Google is testing a rounded nook design for the favicons displayed within the cell search outcomes on snippets. Brodie Clark shared some examples on Twitter saying “On the again of latest testing of favicon sizing on cell, a rounded model with a gray background has appeared. Much like earlier exams, the model title/area can be repeated on the high.”

I believe the rounded look provides them extra uniformity within the search outcomes interface.
